Orphir is a beautiful location in Mainland Orkney, situated between Kirkwall and Stromness. It offers stunning views of Scapa Flow and is home to the St Nicholas Round Kirk and Orkneyinga Saga Centre. The centre celebrates the great Viking Saga and tells the story of the Norsels of Orkney through interpretation boards and an audiovisual display. The Orphir Round Kirk, built in the late 11th or early 12th century, is the remains of a circular medieval church in Scotland and is believed to have been built by Earl Haakon and dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Additionally, the ferry terminal of Houton is located in Orphir, providing easy access to Flotta and Hoy (Lyness).
